Quality Health Services & NHS
The need for integration of ‘Quality’ in the health services offered as part of the National Health System (GESY) with a view to patient satisfaction and optimal use of resources was the main message of the roundtable organized by the Cyprus Association for Quality (member OEB) in cooperation with the Cyprus Society for Quality in Health. The debate on the “Quality of Health Services & GHS”, held Thursday, May 28, 2015 in Nicosia.
Key findings that emerged from the event are:
- To assist and support the above efforts achieved by hospital certification-accreditation and / or implementing business excellence models, along with the systematic involvement and education of all stakeholders.
- The corollary of the above is the measurement of Quality through performance indicators, data collection, printing and standardization of procedures and control mechanisms, continuous improvement and reduction of errors, the use of quality tools to identify the root causes and improving efficiency and productivity as well as other parameters necessary ingredients for a successful implementation and operation of the health system.
- The whole effort is necessary to close cooperation and coordination of all stakeholders in the private and public sectors.
- The debate is concern expressed both for the delay in the implementation of the GHS but particularly for weaknesses, according to various speakers, observed in the design and the strategy followed by the Ministry of Health.
Unfortunately it was not possible to participate in the discussion representative of the Ministry of Health in order to enrich the debate with his own interventions and to dispel any impression. We hope it will become feasible in our League next congress.
During the event participants with placements representatives of the most important players in the health sector such as Cyprus Medical Association, Association of Private Hospitals, Nationwide Guild Government Doctors, Nurses & Midwives Association and the Cyprus Society of Quality in Health. The event was sponsored by the Health Polyclinic.
CyAQ in response to the great interest demonstrated by the participants and their desire to organize similar events in the future, states that it will continue its action for meeting the expectations of its members, associates and partners.
